Explore City Palace
Built over four centuries, the impressive City Palace sits overlooking Lake Pichola as a proud reminder of the powerful Mewar dynasty. A visit to the palace - the largest in Rajasthan - provides the chance to see its elegant interiors, as well as curiosities such as a tiger-catching cage.
Enjoy a Cruise on Lake Pichola
To experience the city from another angle, embark on a cruise on tranquil Lake Pichola. Dating back to the 14th century, the artificial lake offers the chance to float past various islands, palaces, grand residences and temples, and is even more scenic at sunrise and sunset.
Stroll around Sahelion-ki-Bari

Food and drink in Udaipur
While Udaipur may be best known for its lakes and opulent palaces, the city is also home to a burgeoning culinary scene. There are plenty of excellent restaurants serving mouthwatering traditional and modern fare, as well as humble street stalls serving up aromatic bites on-the-go.
In contrast to the rest of Rajasthan, Udaipur cuisine includes plenty of meat-based dishes, as it is largely based on the preferences of Mewar rulers, who were enthusiastic hunters. The city is also not as dry as elsewhere in the state, enabling the use of ingredients like corn and freshwater fish in its cuisine. Other staples include ghee, yoghurt, and chillies, as well as other Rajasthani favourites like lentils and chutney. In terms of dishes, one of the most popular is daal baati churma, formed of dal, dough balls and crushed wheat fried with ghee and sugar. Other widely available dishes include gatte ki sabji, chickpea dumplings in a yoghurt-based curry sauce, and laal maans, a mutton curry.
If you'd like to sample the local street food, look out for traditional options such as samosas, poha (flattened rice), and mawa kachoris - a hot dessert comprising crispy, deep-fried pastries stuffed with dry fruit and mawa (evaporated milk solids). If you're in need of something more substantial after all that sightseeing on your holidays in Udaipur, there are plenty of great restaurants to dine at. For lunch with a view, Tribute Restaurant has a lovely lakeside setting perfect for bird watching, with traditional curries and breads on the menu. Ambrai Restaurant has excellent views of the majestic City Palace, while the lavish Upre Restaurant offers fine dining with views over the lake and palace from its elegant rooftop.
