Explore the former Nabatean trading post on a holiday in Jordan.
Within the vast, otherworldly desert of Jordan lies the ancient city of Petra. This unique destination has been etched out of the pink sandstone over the years, which is why Petra has been widely regarded as the “Rose City”. In the mid-eighties, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its rich archaeological significance. Alongside Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal, it’s one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
To visit the ancient city, travellers can head to Wadi Mūsā, a town located next to the ancient complex. Inside Petra, there is the Khaznah (“Treasury”), Al-Dayr (“the Monastery”) an incomplete tomb facade, and The High Place of Sacrifice, an altar dating to biblical times. It also comprises a complex and intricate water management system, which allowed civilisations to thrive here despite the arid desert landscape.
Petra, an ancient complex situated in Jordan, dates all the way back to the fourth century B.C. Journey there with us.
Allow the ancient brilliance of Petra to ignite your imagination.
